Squishy's thoughts on Animal Crossing Pocket Camp

Early this morning (or late last night) Nintendo revealed the Animal Crossing app to us all. Its called "Animal Crossing Pocket Camp and its coming out in late November. Here are my thoughts on the app.

Gameplay
The game is similar to Happy Home Designer in that you design a plot of space to make villagers happy. The only difference is that your customizing your very own campground rather than just villager's homes. Plus your attracting villagers rather than finding them on the street to do work. I think making an Animal Crossing app that involves designing things is a safe move for Nintendo. However I'm not sure about its lifespan.

You collect materials to get Cyrus to build you some new furniture. Or you can buy furniture in a little market place for bells or Leaf Tickets. I like how you have to earn the furniture traditionally rather than just getting it in a catalog randomly. You can also buy bells and Leaf Tickets using real money.

"You know your childhood is over when your paying Tom Nook real money"

Really though, the option doesn't bother me (I'm guilty of spending a little on Pokemon Go back in the day).

You get your own camper to customize as well, both inside and out. That's a nice touch, especially the second floor which came as a surprise.

Villagers
For the first time in Animal Crossing history, you can actually see the friendship you have with other villagers. Although it may not be useful its still nice to see the addition. You can lure different villagers to your campground depending on what furniture you have set down so getting ugly villagers can still happen.

Your player can also be customized, similar to how it worked in Happy Home Designer. You can choose your hair, eyes and skin colour. Its nice to see this return!

Other features
You an your friends can visit each other's campgrounds which is cool since a lot of Nintendo's other apps haven't been very good with connecting to other players like this. You can even get items off them for bells. I love that addition because it wasn't needed but it makes the app better.

You can now catch multiple fish and bugs at once using honey and large fishing nets. It looks like from the footage that you can catch at least ten of something (at least for fish). Also when fishing or bug catching traditionally a "!" will pop up indicating that you got it. So no more turning the volume up to fish!

Lastly there will be updates and seasonal events which will allow you to get new items and possibly other bonuses. Sweet!

Overall
Overall I think this is really impressive for a mobile game. One thing they didn't mentio is the connectivity with other Animal Crossing titles, so is that coming? Or are they waiting for a Switch version? Thank you for reading and I'll see you all next time!
