Squishy’s thoughts on Q Con 2018

So I went to Q Con for my third year in a row, with this being the second time I spent a whole weekend there and the second year I cosplayed. So here are my thoughts on Q Con 2018!

Friday
So on Friday I cosplayed as Fawful from the Mario and Luigi series. I did a mixture of his Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story appearances. I enjoyed it until I started feeling really warm. It wasn’t the Con’s fault but I ended up removing the mask and cloak after an hour. Lesson learned; cosplay as humans in hotter weather.

I also walked around with a "Mustard of your Doom" bottle!

So back to Q Con! I just spent time getting used to the place like I do every year, bought a few things in Artist Alley and went to see the Irish Video Game Orchestra’s evening concert. It was a chill first day and I loved the concert. They played songs from Mario, Zelda, a medley of some Studio Ghibli music and even the opera from Final Fantasy 6! I’ll be uploading some stuff from the concert on my YouTube channel over the next few days to a week.

Slightly off topic, but I love how well the conductor, Robert Martin handled the kids there. He was interacting with them and I love people who can put attention on the kids (and parents) in a positive way. Awesome dude!

Saturday
On Saturday, I just walked around in my grape striped shirt that I own in real life. There were plenty of events but I passed them up simply because I was having a good time with the people around me and the little things on offer. I went to The Space (the game room) every now and then to take a breather and check Streetpasses, then be on my way.

There were a few people having a mini dancing session and people would just randomly join (and no one cared). It was also the type of community where you could leave your bag or coat and 99% of the time, no one would touch it (and if someone did, they would get called out by the 99%). I feel so fortunate to be involved in such a loving community where we can be so carefree and kind to each other. I wish the rest of the world could be like the Q Con community!

I also got a few photos of some awesome cosplayers. Two of my favourites was one of Heather Chandler from Heathers The Musical and another of the Masked Man From Mother 3 (I made his day by recognizing him). Here are a few photos of my favorites!

Sunday
On Sunday, I was going to encore my Jeff cosplay from last year, but the weather was just too warm, so I went as my villager again!

I did something new that was set up over the weekend. They had a replica of The Iron Throne from the books and TV show “Game of Thrones” set up and they had some photographers there to take professional photos with swords, dragon eggs and even Joffery’s crown. My mum and I (my mum’s a fan of GoT, she was not passing it up) went in and got our photos done. They even do group photos for free if everyone in the group pays for a photo. I’m clueless about Game of Thrones (it’s something I need to get on with) so it was more of a novelty. Here is a photo of me with a sword and crown!

This was the first year I stayed for the closing ceremony, since it’s the last time Q Con will take place in this particular venue (RIP Student Union). It started with some speeches from the volunteers, some Thank yous, then it ended with some live music from the Irish Video Game Orchestra and a slightly new musician called Rustage. He’s a rapper from England who makes music about nerdy things, such as Overwatch, Dungeons and Dragons and Avatar. He was amazing! I will be posting some of his music on my channel along with the Orchestra’s music.

I got quite a bit from Artist Alley. The usual posters, plushies and keychains. It’s the only place I can get cool nerdy stuff without the expensive post and packaging!

Overall, I had a blast at Q Con and I really look forward to next year in the new venue, especially since I have irl friends going too next year. Time to start thinking of (human) cosplay ideas. Thank you for reading

New Leaf: Streetpass Roulette!

Last Thursday was the longest day of the year, so it was actually sunny in June for once.

Jeremiah requested that I build a water pump in town. I actually like that PWP!

Soleil is the villager replacing Frank, they even took his spot in town.

I don't know what villager they are. The name isn't even giving me a hint either.

I got my yearly ladder shades from Isabelle. They should at least have these in multiple colours or something.

So my newest villager is a hamster, which I discovered the next day. She's better than Frank, but I wouldn't mind letting her go if the time ever comes.

Flurry reminded me about my crushed E3 spirit, similar to what Stitches done.

But she's hopeful, which is all we can be. :)

Stitches asked me if I wanted to visit his house. Sure!

Then he asked for a specific time. I was actually playing AT Q Con, so the timing couldn't have been worse.

Speaking of Q Con, here is a game of "Streetpass Roulette", the game where I go over all my Animal Crossing Streetpasses from the event (since this is the only time I ever get a Streetpas). Here are some of Friday!

Hello darkness my old friend...

Here's Saturday!

So this is what the villagers meant about Streetpass affecting ReTail. This would be a useful festure if it was more common (and the stuff was better than just fish and wallpaper)

And here is Sunay's lineup! I did much better than last year. I was only there for a day the year before so I won't really count it.

Three more things before I end the post. First of all, the blog schedule will be going back to normal starting today! So New Leaf will be on Mondays and Fridays again. Secondly, be on the lookout for my thoughts on Q Con, which will be out on Wednesday. Lastly, I will be posting video footage from Q Con on my Youtube channel. In fact, I already have an Orchestration of "Snake Eater" from the Irish Video Game Orchestra (the orchestra I went to a concert for in November 2017

Thank you for reading and I hope everyone has an amazing week!

Miitopia: Fighting Lillie again!

Last time, I got a game over in the fight against Lillie (yes, that's seriously the boss's name). Today, I'm out for blood (or not because the game is rated 3+)

While going through places I haven't completed for EXP, Amy did her first Quirk, which is where she hits harder than usual.

I returned to the Lillie fight, where Amaris and I reached friendship Level 3 so we can us Warning.

Death also used a quirk for the first time, Again. Its when he does another attack. Cool!

Death and Amaris reached friendship Level 5. Amaris is getting along with everyone!

It looked like all hope was lost, allies have fallen and Sprinkles are scarce, but we somehow did it

At the inn, Death and Amy reached friendship Level 5

Lesson learned, buy bananas more often, even if Miis don't bother using them in battle half the time.

Death did reach Level 9, no additional things though.

I mentioned the Air Headed quirk to Amaris and she was kinda chill about it.

At least our friendship went up to 4 at the next inn.

Never mind, this is getting creepy!

Thanks for reading and hi from Q Con!

Miitopia: Missing screenshots...

Here is the current party (like usual). I have no idea how Amaris is Level 8. I gouess I lost a few screenshots at some point.

It kinda makes sense that the Cat (Amy) would say this, since I've seen cats try to "look for a fart" like its an object.

Or maybe my cats are just weird...

Either way, it means that the fart was either Amaris or me (according to my track record, I bet it was me)

Amy told me a dream that gold fell on her. That sounds more painful than amazing.

I reached Level 8 and learnt Spicy Dish. Finally the chef is useful!

Amy and I reached friendship Level 9 and can now Avenge each other!

Death changed his hair, which also got him and Amaris a friendship level up. This time it was 4 with concern.

The Miis are doing so well at coming home with the correct weapons and clothing!

Okay, how many screenshots did I lose. Luckily I know they aren't plot related but its still kinda annoying. Sorry about that but I guess everyone else reached Level 8 now!

Amaris complimented my frying pan and asked to hold it.

That's a good point, since I wouldn't have time to wash it in between hitting enamies and healing everyone.

I honestly enjoy typing the move "Bum Jab" because I'm a child at heart, but why always do it to me? I'm one of the weakest party members!

We found Lillie's face and fought the boss called... Lillie...

Amy died during the fight, so I used Avenge for the first time!

Death accepted Amy's Payful Antics this time (I used a Life Sprinkle on her)

The fight was a little difficult, so we ended up with a game over... RIP

My problem was that I was struggling in the banana department, so I let everyone that wanted a banana go buy one when I would normally skip them.

I'll try the fight again next time. Thank you for reading!
