Friday
So on Friday I cosplayed as Fawful from the Mario and Luigi series. I did a mixture of his Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story appearances. I enjoyed it until I started feeling really warm. It wasn’t the Con’s fault but I ended up removing the mask and cloak after an hour. Lesson learned; cosplay as humans in hotter weather.
I also walked around with a "Mustard of your Doom" bottle!
So back to Q Con! I just spent time getting used to the place like I do every year, bought a few things in Artist Alley and went to see the Irish Video Game Orchestra’s evening concert. It was a chill first day and I loved the concert. They played songs from Mario, Zelda, a medley of some Studio Ghibli music and even the opera from Final Fantasy 6! I’ll be uploading some stuff from the concert on my YouTube channel over the next few days to a week.
Slightly off topic, but I love how well the conductor, Robert Martin handled the kids there. He was interacting with them and I love people who can put attention on the kids (and parents) in a positive way. Awesome dude!
Saturday
On Saturday, I just walked around in my grape striped shirt that I own in real life. There were plenty of events but I passed them up simply because I was having a good time with the people around me and the little things on offer. I went to The Space (the game room) every now and then to take a breather and check Streetpasses, then be on my way.
There were a few people having a mini dancing session and people would just randomly join (and no one cared). It was also the type of community where you could leave your bag or coat and 99% of the time, no one would touch it (and if someone did, they would get called out by the 99%). I feel so fortunate to be involved in such a loving community where we can be so carefree and kind to each other. I wish the rest of the world could be like the Q Con community!
I also got a few photos of some awesome cosplayers. Two of my favourites was one of Heather Chandler from Heathers The Musical and another of the Masked Man From Mother 3 (I made his day by recognizing him). Here are a few photos of my favorites!
Sunday
On Sunday, I was going to encore my Jeff cosplay from last year, but the weather was just too warm, so I went as my villager again!
I did something new that was set up over the weekend. They had a replica of The Iron Throne from the books and TV show “Game of Thrones” set up and they had some photographers there to take professional photos with swords, dragon eggs and even Joffery’s crown. My mum and I (my mum’s a fan of GoT, she was not passing it up) went in and got our photos done. They even do group photos for free if everyone in the group pays for a photo. I’m clueless about Game of Thrones (it’s something I need to get on with) so it was more of a novelty. Here is a photo of me with a sword and crown!
This was the first year I stayed for the closing ceremony, since it’s the last time Q Con will take place in this particular venue (RIP Student Union). It started with some speeches from the volunteers, some Thank yous, then it ended with some live music from the Irish Video Game Orchestra and a slightly new musician called Rustage. He’s a rapper from England who makes music about nerdy things, such as Overwatch, Dungeons and Dragons and Avatar. He was amazing! I will be posting some of his music on my channel along with the Orchestra’s music.
I got quite a bit from Artist Alley. The usual posters, plushies and keychains. It’s the only place I can get cool nerdy stuff without the expensive post and packaging!
Overall, I had a blast at Q Con and I really look forward to next year in the new venue, especially since I have irl friends going too next year. Time to start thinking of (human) cosplay ideas. Thank you for reading
