Squishy: Changes and ideas for Cosmic Acorns

As you all know, Beth has left Cosmic Acorns as of yesterday. First of all thank you Beth for co-blogging with me over the last year. I cannot say that enough. It has been great sharing the blog with you all this time and I wish you luck for the future.

Since now its just me, I've been spending the last week figuring out how to fill the void and change anything that needs changed.

Blog Name

This is something I considered since during my first month of blogging it was called Squishy Pixelz. I decided to keep Cosmic Acorns as the blog name. Its still very catchy plus I had it for a year now so it would be silly to change it.

Posting schedule

This week will be a bit all over the place since I'm kinda busy irl but I will be following the schedule below starting next Monday.

While writing out a schedule I realised that Animal Crossing is getting less hyped up and I want to try other things. So from now until a possible Switch version comes out, Animal Crossing will be twice per week and on some event days (for example, I won't be doing every Bug Off or Fishing Tourney). Overall here is what the current schedule looks like.

Monday - Animal Crossing New Leaf
Tuesday -
Wednesday - Other stuff
Thursday -
Friday - Animal Crossing New Leaf
Saturday -
Sunday - Other stuff

An Animal Crossing event would replace the Wednesday and Sunday post if the event falls on that day. Other stuff could include
  • My thoughts on games, consoles and gaming events
  • Ideas and concepts I have for unannounced or unreleased games
  • Weekly posts on a particular game or even a one off game
  • Non gameplay Animal Crossing stuff (such as news and creative stuff I see)
  • Other ideas I have in mind
Other Things
There will be other minor changes such as the addition of pages for organisation and other things but for now, that is everything. Again thank you Beth and thank you everyone for reading and I'll see you all next time.

Also if anyone has any ideas for possible games or review feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Beth: My Future of Gaming (and Animal Crossing)

Hi everyone! Sadly, today marks my last day on the blog and I'm very sorry to be leaving. I wanted to do something special with this post and look to the future, but before I start my discussion, I just wanted to say a little thank you.

Squishy has been my co-blogger here for over a year and I'm happy to say she's going to be continuing the blog after I leave. She's become a great friend and I'm sure will be one for years to come. Thank you for letting me blog here with you, Squishy!

And onto the discussion!

Will I be a Nintendo fan forever?
Honestly? No! As much as I adore Nintendo games and they will obviously be special to me for a long time in the future, I can see myself moving over to PC or even PS at some point. I reckon I'll still have a Nintendo console and collection of games on my shelf, but I don't think they'll be such a big part of my life forever.

Will I be a gamer forever?
I think so. Gaming has become a big hobby for me since I was little, and I can't imagine stopping anytime soon. Even if I move between platforms and companies, I can definitely see myself continuing to game.

What is my future in Nintendo/Gaming?
For now, I'm definitely going to be continuing playing on my Switch. My friend Chris recently gave me a copy of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, which I can't wait to start and I still have Breath of the Wild to complete. Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 will definitely continue to be favourites as well!

What about Animal Crossing?

I'm sure I'll consider buying the next Animal Crossing game, but my interest in the series is definitely dwindling. What about New Leaf? Well, I'll be continuing my (slow) journey with JVGS Jeff to make our Arrested Development themed town at www.arrestedtown.tumblr.com!

But Acorn? I would actually like to hack. My friend Naomi hacked my old town, but I would love to do it myself. The amount you can do with the game so easily and quickly fascinates me, and it'd definitely take the pressure off to play frequently.

So it's time for me to say farewell and thank you for reading. Not just this time, but all of my posts! If you want to keep up with me, you can find me over on Twitter or on my book blog!

Splatoon 2: My 3 Favourite Stages

It's been over a month since the release of Splatoon 2, and after my last post, I thought I could do something similar with Splatoon.

So now we're here to talk about my 3 favourite Splatoon multiplayer stages. I was going to go for 5, but at that point we'd be listing most of them :P

3. I like the idea of Starfish Mainstage and the number of ways to explore the map.

2. I didn't know if I would like Moray Towers at first, but I actually love the layout now. There are so many ways to ink this map.

3. Musselforge Fitness has been one of my favourite levels since the start of the game, and I still love it.

Thanks for reading! I'll be back on Sunday with, sadly, my last post.

Squishy: Used gym clothes

Today Daisy had a delivery for my other dog, Portia. She got a pastel-stripe tee and put it on right away.

She gave me a sleek stereo as a reward. Pretty sleek!

Iggly said that was moving on the 10th of next month to train. I love Iggly and his derp like nature so I cancelled his plans.

The game got the month right too!

Later though he pinged me. He wanted to give me a green gym tee. It better not be the one he trains in, gross!

I decided to do some fishing but when I went to sell them in ReTail I just saw Stitches, staring at Cyrus. I wonder how Reese feels about this.

I just continued fishing for then ended my session. Thanks to everyone for reading and good luck to everyone who started school (I know the feeling)

Mario Kart 8: My 5 Favourite Races

Hello gamers! As it's my last week on the blog, I thought I'd go for a few different things. Today we're going to be having a quick discussion of my top 5 favourite courses in Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Switch.

Since buying the game, I have played all 42 races non stop with one of my best friends. It was a fun afternoon, and it took about 2 1/2 hours non stop!

1. I love the long courses, and Big Blue is definitely one of my favourites! It's very fast paced with a lot of water flowing through, and I love it.

2. Crossing Cup is definitely one of my favourite cups - and Wild Woods also reminds me of Animal Crossing.

3. I also couldn't not include the Animal Crossing race - I love the little touches in this one like the speed-boosting fruit and bells for money.

4. I couldn't include the Animal Crossing race and not the Hyrule one! Again, this one has some great touches, like the rupees.

5. Super Bell Subway surprised me - I actually really like it! The train does annoy me of course, but the race has a lot of variations that I love.

Thanks for reading! Which are your favourite tracks?

Squishy's thoughts on Miiverse's future death

Although Miiverse isn't used as much these days, a few years back I used it the same way that I use Twitter now (way too much). It was the first form of social networking for gamers I had access to (besides Nintendo Letter Box and Flipnote Hatena)

Nintendo will be pulling the plug on it on the 8th November this year. I would like to spend today talking about my fondest memories before its gone for good.

This is a bit of a simple memorie but I remember rushing home from school just to see what all my online friends were up to. I only had the 3DS version so I also remember getting hooked the day it released. Now I do it for Twittr (no shame).

I remember being excited to see Sakuri's pic of the week for Smash 4 and getting really excited when I was quick enough to leave a comment (because there was a 1,000 comment limit back then).

There was a time where the Miiverse mods were really strict when it came to Friend Codes so I spent a year figuring out creative ways to sneak my Friend Code under the mods noses. My favourite was putting the friend code on the bulletin board in Animal Crossing and posting a screenshot. Ahhh those were the days.

My favourite memory had to be the Miiverse rebellion of 2014. At the time Miiverse had a update that forced users to wait 3 minutes before they could post again (so like Reddit, but worse). A large majority of the community got really annoyed and started a rebellion against the mods. Its was just a day where everyone constantly broke the rules and made the mod's jobs a nightmare, but I'll never forget it. There was even the hashtag #SaveMiiverse floating around.

Thank you Miiverse for being my jumpstart into the gaming community. Does anyone else have any Miiverse memories? Feel free to leave it in the comments. Thak you for reading and have a good day.

Squishy; Robo Romance

Last Tuesday I got two presents from villagers in the post. I got a round carpet and a... round table. Weird!

Ever since that villager pic incident, I haven't skipped a lost item since.

Jeremiah said that he was moving on the 25th of this month. At first I decided to let him go so that I could get some new faces in town.

Then he randomly changed his mind. It worked out in the end because while writing this now I would have missed him.

While walking around to find the owner of the book, a tarantula randomly showed up and stung me.

The most shocking part is that it wasn't even 9pm. I didn't think they showed up before then.

As I continued my search I discovered that the owner was Rosie.

While speaking to Daisy I accidently took of photo of this text box. Out of context this sounds kinda creepy.

Flurry wanted a gold nugget for 3,000 bells. Uh no!

On Friday I had a bit of a betting match with Filbert.

"I win like gold"

Iggly wanted me to catch a Dory surgonfish. I accepted the challenge of Finding Dory.

I found a seagull first though.

When I read this clue, the first thing that came to mind was Hamilton (I know its inaccurate)

I didn't have access to the internet at the time so I guessed USE. I was wrong.

I did find Dory straight after though. I didn't let her in Gulliver's mouth though.

I returned to Jeremiah and got a pink tartan tee as a reward.

On Saturday there was a notice on the bulletin board about the last Fireworks show of 2017.

Camofrog gave me a robo chair as a present. He mentioned marrying it. At this rate its my only chance for romance

Flurry wanted some fruit so I gave her a lemon. She thought it was sweet for some weird reason.

She gave me a... lemon gingham tee as a present.

As you probably heard from Beth, she will be leaving Cosmic Acorns this week. Thank you so much for blogging with me for the last year and I wish you luck with everything you do. I will go over the changes at a later date.

Thank you for reading and have a good week.

Beth: ACNL: Last Fireworks!

Today, I went on to see the last firework show of the year.

I took a few pictures of them over my house, and made sure to get my boppers out!

Unfortunately, Isabelle gave me another bulb bopper :P

I didn't get a prize from Redd, but he did give me a sparkler!

I ventured around town and took a couple of photos of the fireworks as it's the last show.

I made sure to chat to a few villagers before I stopped playing, and Walker seemed to be enjoying the fireworks!

Before I go, I bring sad news that unfortunately I will be leaving this blog next weekend. It's getting close to me going back to college and unfortunately it'll be too much for me! Thank you to Squishy for having me for the past year, it's been great :)

Beth: ACNL: The Roost

I spotted a balloon for the first time in a while today, so I shot it down purely to sell it's contents :P

I decided to work a shift in The Roost, but I always use a guide so I don't actually know my villagers that well!

Sheldon told me he was impressed by my suppposed skill, with egg :P Sorry squirrel, we don't serve eggs here.

Brewster gave me some superb coffee beans and an old coffee cup for my trouble. Eww, how long has that been used in the shop?

I went home to take a look at it, and this thing still has liquid in! How long has that been in there?

I found a time capsule and returned it to Walker. He also randomly gave me a gift, but I'm not sure what for :P

I (accidentally) bought a cup of coffee while I was in The Roost and took it up to the campsite to drink it.

Thanks for reading!

Beth: ACNL: Visits and Presents

I walked out of my house today and straight into a pitfall. Serves me right for not watching where I was going :P

I visited Rizzo, who was in boxes. I'm not too bothered about him, so I'm happy to let him go.

I saw a rainbow in Acorn while I was wandering, which was really pretty. I don't think I've seen one for ages!

I don't usually go around doing chores (like bashing rocks), but I just happened to and found this! Lucky me :P

I saw the results of the Bug Off - at least I wans't too far behind.

Monique asked me to buy her most treasured possession...a cabin wall?

Walker asked me to visit his house, and I said yes as he meant right now. It was a *very* tiny adventure, though...you can see his house in the top left corner :P

I tried to buy the salmon in Walker's house while I was there, but it was the only thing he wouldn't let me have!

I visited my lovely friend Amy in real life today, and that means we took a quick break playing NL. It was great to see her both in NL and in real life, I had a lovely day :)

I headed over to her town breifly, and she gave me a surprise present! I unwrapped it, and found a crown. Thanks, Amy! :)
